Gira: Modern technology meets hospitality

3 min read

Anyone who travels and stays in a hotel wants to feel comfortable in their temporary home and enjoy the best comfort. High demands are therefore being placed on the furnishing and equipment concepts of hotels - in fact, they should be in no way inferior to the real home of their guests. Networked building technology and smart room control systems are becoming increasingly popular not only in private homes, but also in the hospitality sector. Guests want to be able to enjoy technical novelties and innovations while on vacation. With the technical solutions from Gira, hotel rooms can be transformed into smart spaces that promise maximum living comfort in addition to an aesthetic design.

During the annual Casa Decor event in Madrid, architects and companies can each design their own space - and in annually changing buildings. In 2020, a historic city palace dating from 1904 was the venue for this unique event, in which the interior design firm The Room Studio from Barcelona took part as well. The two architects Meritxell Ribé and Josep Puigdomènech designed a noble hotel suite that appears particularly spacious thanks to its large mirrored surfaces. The floor of the living/sleeping area is made of high-quality oak wood, which particularly harmonizes with the dark and luxurious Turquia marble used in the semi-open bathroom. The large extravagant bed is the focal point of the living/sleeping area, whereas an open dressing room provides ample storage space. Finally, a chic entry area completes the elegant room.

To create an atmospheric ambience, the architects relied on various lighting elements that give the room its character. Intelligent control is provided by the G1 touchscreen operating device from Gira, which can be easily controlled thanks to intuitive user interfaces. The Plug & Light modular light socket always provides the exact lighting scenario the guest desires. The KNX key sensor 3 and USB power supply combined with frames from the Gira E2 black matt design line were also used in this hotel suite, creating maximum comfort paired with elegant design.

Microliving in a green guise
The Jopa Joma in Breisgau

In the historic small town of Kenzingen, the architectural firm Schmidt Architekten has created a unique guest house with eight micro apartments: the Jopa Joma. The modern new building with a saddleback roof is equipped with large balconies and has a high proportion of glass in the green-designed facade. In addition to creating a modern short-term accommodation, the aim was to convince other hoteliers, architects and investors of this novel concept and to bring the trend of microliving closer to the hospitality industry. During both the planning and construction phases, the architects focused on progressiveness: processes were handled digitally, the building technology was controlled by automation, and a digital booking system was used to manage the apartments.

It is therefore more than obvious that products from Gira were also used in this environment, such as the KNX key sensor 3 and the key sensor 4. With these, numerous functions within the apartments can be controlled very conveniently at the touch of a button. Thanks to its minimalist and timeless design, the Gira E2 design original in matt black also integrates perfectly into the furnishing style of the guest house and provides stylish accentuation at the same time. For even more convenience, the modular Gira Plug & Light light socket outlets create the perfect lighting mood right next to the bed.

A place of experience full of contrasts
The Hotel Laurichhof

Between the impressive Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the metropolis of Dresden lies the design hotel Laurichhof, which Seidel+Architekten accompanied for over five years. But not only the location of the hotel is unique, also the interior design fascinates with its uniqueness and attention to detail: Each of the 27 suites appears in an individual look, which lets the guests dive into foreign worlds. Be it "Blueberry Fields", "Whiteout" or "Palazzo de Medici" - the styles are diverse and ensure a vacation experience of a special kind. Despite the different styles, each suite is furnished with designer pieces that create contrasts while also ensuring a harmonious interplay of individual elements. So while the building draws attention with its straightforward elegance from the outside, it is full of surprises on the inside.

Those who particularly like the furnishings can even purchase them - whether it is a chair, a ceiling light, or a wall color - and bring this unique atmosphere home. The same applies to the technical solutions from Gira, which are optimally integrated into their surroundings at the Laurichhof Hotel ensuring perfect comfort. The Gira E2 design line sets stylish accents with its minimalist angular design, and offers not only switches and socket outlets, but also a wide range of other functions in a uniform system design.

The Gira USB power supply A & C also ensures maximum flexibility as well as functionality, as it enables mobile devices to be charged easily. As a result, the hotel's guests are able to enjoy both an extravagant interior design that promotes a feeling of well-being and high technical standards that make their stay a special experience.
