Gingerbreadhouses: Between static and sprinkles

2 min read

The gingerbread house is a real Christmas classic. Decorated with colorful pearls, icing and wine gum, the house is not only very tasty, but often also a creative masterpiece. As an architect in particular, you can use the sweet cake to turn your ideas into reality and build a wide variety of structures - from traditional single-family houses with gable roof to multi-storey high-rise buildings. The imagination knows no limits.

gingerbreadhouses of three architecture offices

So it is no wonder that during our research we came across original construction plans for gingerbread houses from well-known architecture offices such as Graft Architects, Sauerbruch Hutton or Bundschuh Architects. These were published, among other things, online in the Süddeutsche Zeitung and in the Spiegel - ready to be recreated. And so that you have the perfect building material available, find the right recipe here!

Ingredients for the dough:

250 gr of honey

100 gr of sugar

125 gr of butter

500 gr of flour

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 pack of ginger bread spice

1 tablespoon of cocoa

1 egg

Preparation:

First bring the honey, sugar and butter to the boil in a saucepan and then let them cool in a mixing bowl. Mix the flour, baking soda, gingerbread spice and cocoa and add to the honey mixture. Add the egg and mix everything with the dough hook of a hand mixer until you receive a smooth dough. Let it rest for 2 hours. Then roll out the dough on a floured work surface and cut out the required pieces. Bake on a baking sheet in a preheated oven at 180 ° C (fan oven 160 ° C) on the middle rack for 12-15 minutes.
