Architecture-Biennale: Birthler and Graft-architects are the new curators for the German Pavilion

Marianne Birthler and GRAFT persuaded the jury of their concept for the exhibition “ Unbuilding Walls” and will curate the German Pavilion at the Architecture Biennale 2018 in Venice.

Wolfgang Putz, Thomas Willemeit und Lars Krückberg from GRAFT will work together with Marianne Birthler, Former federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic, referring to this year’s central theme “Freespace”. Special focus will be given on the history of the inner German border wall and to examples of urban and architectural design that address aspects of division and integration. Therefore, the motto will be interpreted historically and realized as an architectural theme. The detailed concept for the exhibition of the German Pavilion will be presented at the beginning of next year.

In 2016 at the Architectural Biennale the architects of GRAFT visited already the POINTS of contact Meetingpoint and presented their new book publishing: Architecture Activism. The exhibition was moderated by Francesca Fergusson.

The Grafton Architects Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara from Dublin assume the entire direction of the Architectural Biennale in Venice which takes place from 26th May to 25th November 2018.
